HANDEL: El Mesías & Ramírez: Navidad Nuestra, with Border CrosSing Dr. Ahmed Fernando Anzaldúa El Samkary, conductor Friday, December 15 - 7pm - Church of the Ascension (1723 Bryant Ave N, Minneapolis) Saturday, December 16 - 3pm - at Our Lady of Guadalupe Diocesan Shrine (401 Concord Street, St. Paul) Join us for another performance of our cherished El Mesías concert, a Spanish-English setting of Handel’s Messiah combined with Navidad nuestra by Argentine composer Ariel Ramírez. Although George Frideric Handel’s Messiah was originally meant for Easter, today it is a fixture of the Christmas season. It is presented countless times in the United States and the United Kingdom around the holiday, and sales and Web downloads of recordings of Messiah peak around this time. For many choristers, Christmas concerts of Messiah and sing-a-longs are the high point of the year. Ariel Ramirez’ Navidad Nuestra occupies a similar role in much of the Spanish-speaking world, especially in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. In this program, we bring both works together. |
