Since 1972, the Minnesota Chorale's education and community engagement programs have aspired to harness the power of the singing voice to promote individual growth and a stronger community. These programs serve differing populations and meet a variety of needs, but they have a common bond – they are central to the Chorale's mission and a proud part of our history and identity.

The Chorale's Bridges series, begun in 1994 to build musical and social bridges to diverse populations, has been acclaimed as a national model for community engagement programs. Bridges is a series of musical initiatives that harness the richness and diversity of the global choral repertoire to engage cultural communities and raise awareness of pressing social needs.
Each year, the Chorale identifies key program collaborators, whether a community, an organization, an artist, or some combination of these. It then identifies appropriate occasions and venues, locates or commissions suitable repertoire, and tailors a range of outreach, education, and performance activities to accomplish the goals of the program. The cumulative results of three decades of Bridges programs include a widening of the audience for choral music in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota, and a web of organizational and individual connections centered on music but reaching far beyond it. |

Emerging Conductor is one of the many education programs offered by the Minnesota Chorale. Conductors – graduate students, area teachers, community conductors, and church music directors – are chosen competitively from across Minnesota and given the opportunity to rehearse symphonic choral repertoire with the Minnesota Chorale. Chorale Artistic Director Kathy Saltzman Romey provides individual coaching and feedback to each participant. The program, which has no regional parallel, gives rising conductors the experience of working with a top-rank symphonic choir.

Choral singing has the power to draw strangers together as friends in a common musical experience. Since 2002, the Minnesota Chorale's InChoir program has enabled participants to get acquainted with great choral music by singing side-by-side with members of the Chorale at a working rehearsal.
More than simply a rehearsal, InChoir events are stimulating, engaging choral experiences designed to illuminate music and text while revealing the historical and cultural influences that shaped their creation. Deliberately blurring the line between artists and spectators, InChoir creates opportunities for participants, at any level of musical ability, to get inside the rehearsal process. Hosted and conducted by Chorale Artistic Director Kathy Saltzman Romey, InChoir participants experience close-up and first-hand the gratifying work that culminates in polished performances by one of the finest choruses in the nation. The Chorale's Side By Side program supports high school tenors and basses in their choral singing experience. In collaboration with high school choirs from the greater Twin Cities metro area, the Chorale brings together tenor and bass vocalists to prepare selected repertoire, which they rehearse and perform side-by-side with partnering schools.
2019 participants: Singers from St. Paul Central & Hopkins high schools performed with men of the Minnesota Chorale in concert on Friday, March 8 at Hopkins High School Auditorium. Due to the pandemic, Side by Side has been on hiatus. We are pleased to announce that the program will be returning for the 2024-25 season.
