Duruflé Requiem InChoir
Thursday, September 24, 2026 - 7:00pm
Westminster Presbyterian Church
1200 Marquette Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403 MAP
Since 2002, our InChoir program has invited the community to step inside the rehearsal process and sing alongside members of the Chorale as Kathy explores choral masterworks from the inside out. It is one of the hallmarks of the Minnesota Chorale — the deliberate blurring of the line between artist and audience, the belief that choral music belongs to everyone who wants to get close to it.
This season, we open with an InChoir experience focusing on Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, Opus 9 — one of the most sublime settings of the Mass for the Dead. Luminous, transcendent, and deeply human, this is a timeless musical journey of darkness and light based on traditional Gregorian Chant.
Scores are provided and everyone is welcome.

Requiescat in Pace
Sunday, October 11, 2026 - 4:00pm
Augustana Lutheran Church
1400 S Robert St, West St Paul, MN 55118 MAP
Two weeks after our InChoir exploration of the Duruflé Requiem, we present the entire work in a memorial performance paired with meditative readings. Singers who joined us in September will now experience a full realization of the Requiem as the Chorale presents it in one of the Twin Cities' most beautiful sacred spaces with guest organist Ju Young Lee at the console.
The Requiem, Opus 9 is a meditation on the complex journey of humankind when facing death. Duruflé wrote: “This Requiem is not an ethereal work which sings of detachment from earthly worries. It reflects, in the immutable form of the Christian prayer, the agony of man faced with the mystery of his ultimate end.” Requiescat in Pace is the first full breath of the season and an opportunity for reflection and commemoration of those we have lost.

A visionary new work from one of America's most celebrated composers, Creation is an oratorio in three parts for treble choir and wind ensemble with video projections which reimagine the story of existence through a feminine lens.
The libretto is woven from the words of eight women poets, exploring themes of the universe’s birth, the formation of life on Earth, motherhood, and the power of community. Among these texts are two newly commissioned poems by Gretchen Ernster Henderson, including “Another Word for Love is Light.” The piece is dedicated to Cecilia Payne, the pioneering scientist who discovered the composition of the universe, embodying the work’s themes of knowledge, wonder, and humanity.
In a groundbreaking artistic collaboration, every creative force behind Creation—from composer to poets, filmmakers, dancers, and animators—are women. The result is a powerful statement on the creative force of womanhood, inspired by Emily Dickinson’s words: “To be a Flower, is profound responsibility.”

Side by Side
November, 2026
Date and Location TBA
Every season, the Minnesota Chorale opens its stage to the next generation of singers — and this season is no different. Side by Side brings high school tenors and basses onto the stage alongside tenor/bass voices of the Chorale, creating an ensemble that spans generations in a single concert. Conducted by Dr. Jon C. Lahann, Walter Tambor, and Dr. David Mennicke, this is the organization's commitment to mentorship and community in action — the belief that the partnership between singers of all ages enriches the experience for all.
17th Annual Messiah Sing!

St. Olaf Catholic Church
215 S 8th St, Minneapolis, MN 55402 MAP
CONDUCTOR: Kathy Saltzman Romey

Seventeen years ago, Kathy removed the barrier between audience and performer and invited the community to participate in a performance of Handel’s Messiah in collaboration with guest organist Dr. Lynn Trapp.
Since that time, Messiah Sing! has become one of the most beloved traditions in the Minnesota Chorale's calendar — a gathering of hundreds of voices young and old, scores in hand, filling St. Olaf Catholic Church with something that feels less like a concert and more like a homecoming. Handel's Messiah
Friday & Saturday, December 18 & 19, 2026
Orchestra Hall
1111 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403 MAP
The Minnesota Chorale is the principal chorus of the Minnesota Orchestra — a collaboration that has defined the Chorale's artistic identity for two decades and a relationship which dates back to the Chorale’s inception. In every project that brings together chorus and orchestra, it is Kathy Saltzman Romey who prepares the Chorale through months of meticulous rehearsals before the singers take the stage at Orchestra Hall. What audiences hear in collaborations with the Minnesota Orchestra reflects the skill and passion of Kathy and the Chorale to render the music at the highest level.
This season, the Minnesota Chorale joins the Minnesota Orchestra for five major productions — a testament to the breadth and vitality of this partnership, and to the extraordinary versatility of our organization.

The Minnesota Chorale joins the Minnesota Orchestra for Handel's Messiah, one of the season’s most treasured holiday traditions. Conductor Dame Jane Glover was only 9 years old when she was swept away after hearing Handel’s Messiah one Christmas in Lincoln Cathedral. She sees it as a defining moment in a life suffused with music…and Messiahs! At last count, Dame Glover had conducted over 120 performances of the oratorio in concerts around the world. Don’t miss her performances that arrive just weeks after the Chorale has welcomed hundreds of community singers to its own Messiah Sing.

Rachmaninoff InChoir
Monday, February 22, 2027 - 7:00pm
Westminster Presbyterian Church
1200 Marquette Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403 MAP
The season's second InChoir event arrives in the depths of the Minnesota winter — and the music could not be more fitting. Rachmaninoff's The Bells sets Edgar Allan Poe's poem across the arc of a human life: the silver bells of youth, the golden bells of joy, the brazen bells of alarm, the iron bells of mortality. It is vast, dramatic, and emotionally overwhelming — and Kathy will open the rehearsal and invite you inside.
This InChoir mirrors our Duruflé Requiem experience which opened the season in September. Together they frame our Da Capo al Fine arc with the same gesture, inviting you to explore a choral masterwork from the inside out.

Scores are provided and everyone is welcome.

Rachmaninoff : The Bells
Friday & Saturday, March 12 & 13, 2027
Orchestra Hall
1111 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403 MAP
Rachmaninoff once said, “All my life, I have taken pleasure in the differing moods and music of gladly chiming and mournfully tolling bells.” In his setting of Edgar Allan Poe's poem, the composer traces the arc of human life — from the silver bells of youth to the iron bells at the end. Growing up in a country where bells carry profound cultural and spiritual meaning, it’s no surprise that they permeate Rachmaninoff’s music. Music Director Thomas Søndergård leads the Minnesota Orchestra and Minnesota Chorale in this rarely performed choral symphony, complimented by Szymanowski's virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 2 featuring Associate Concertmaster Susie Park.

The Coda - Celebrating Our Maestra
Sunday, June 13, 2027 - 4:00pm
St. Andrew's Lutheran Church
900 Stillwater Rd, Mahtomedi, MN 55115 MAP
In music, the Coda is the concluding passage — the final section of the da capo, which brings the entire movement to its resolution. It is not simply an ending. It is the moment when everything that came before is summarized and finds its meaning.
On this night, the Family of Choirs and greater community gather for the last time under Kathy Saltzman Romey's baton. Singers spanning her tenure with the Minnesota Chorale will join the choir. The voices she has shaped, artistic and civic partners of over three decades, staff and board members from the past and present, and supporters who have made it all possible. Those who have been a part of Kathy’s personal and professional journey will come together one final time to sing, to celebrate, and to share in her gratitude for all that has encompassed a 36-year legacy of performance activity, educational programming, and community collaborations.
