Tania Leon
Tania León (b. 1943)
Cuban-born American composer, conductor, and educator Tania León is one of the most acclaimed and influential musicians of her generation, and was the first Latin American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music, in 2021. New projects include an extended choral work commissioned by The Crossing, one of America's most adventurous professional choirs, reflecting her deep engagement with the voice. Her music draws on her rich multicultural heritage — French, Spanish, Chinese, African, and Cuban — producing a language that feels wholly original. She has been commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, London Philharmonic, and Ensemble Modern, among many others. A towering figure by any measure.
