Katherine Bergman
Katherine Bergman (b. 1985)
Minnesota-based composer Katherine Bergman draws on literature, environmentalism, and found materials to create music that has been described as hypnotic and visceral. Born in St. Paul, she holds degrees from Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Northern Iowa, and has received commissions and performances from leading ensembles including the U.S. Coast Guard Band, Hub New Music, Zeitgeist, and the Minnesota Percussion Trio. She is co-founder and artistic co-director of Spitting Image, a composer collective strengthening the Twin Cities contemporary music community, and performs regularly as a saxophonist. Her choral writing reflects the same ecological curiosity and sonic adventurousness that defines her instrumental work — music with a genuine sense of place.
