John Williams
John Williams (b. 1932)
John Williams is one of the most celebrated composers in history, though his reputation rests squarely on his film scores — Star Wars, Schindler's List, Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones. His use of choir in film is legendary: the wordless chorus in Close Encounters, the full-throated choral writing in the Star Wars saga, the haunting vocal textures in Schindler's List. He has also composed concert works including a song cycle, Seven for Luck, for soprano and orchestra, setting poetry by Rita Dove. For choral programs, Williams most often appears via arrangements of his film music — which audiences adore. If you want butts in seats, Williams delivers.
