Gabriela Lena Frank

Gabriela Lena Frank (b. 1972)

Winner of the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Music, and included on the Washington Post's list of the 35 most significant women composers in history, Gabriela Lena Frank is a composer and pianist born in Berkeley, California, to a mother of Peruvian/Chinese ancestry and a father of Lithuanian/Jewish descent. Her music reflects extensive study of Latin American folklore, weaving poetry, mythology, and native musical styles into a Western classical framework. She composed the Conquest Requiem, a large-scale choral/orchestral work in Spanish, Latin, and Nahuatl — the language of the Aztecs — during her residency with the Houston Symphony. Commissioned by major orchestras, ensembles, and soloists worldwide, Frank is one of the defining voices of her generation.
