Dale Warland
Dale Warland (b. 1932)
Dale Warland is one of only two choral conductors — along with Robert Shaw — inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. In his quarter-century with the Dale Warland Singers, he shaped an all-professional a cappella ensemble lauded for its exquisite sound, technical finesse, and stylistic range — and from that platform commissioned and premiered some 270 works from composers around the globe. The ensemble's 29 recordings include the Grammy-nominated Walden Pond and Lux Aurumque, named a Top Ten Classical Album by NPR. A St. Paul institution and longtime Macalester College professor, Warland also composes and arranges choral works of his own. His legacy is inseparable from the contemporary choral music scene in Minnesota — and well beyond.
