Abbie Betinis
Abbie Betinis (b. 1980)
Composer Abbie Betinis writes music called "inventive" by the New York Times, "incandescent" by the Boston Globe, and "ethereal" by Cambridge University Press. A St. Paul native and graduate of St. Olaf College, she is a third-generation member of the Burt family — great-niece of Christmas carol composer Alfred Burt — continuing the tradition of writing and sending original carols to family and friends. Her many vocal commissions include work for Cantus, Dale Warland Singers, Conspirare with Miró String Quartet, St. Olaf Choir, and soprano Carrie Henneman Shaw. She is also co-founder of Justice Choir, a national movement using communal singing as a form of civic advocacy. Her choral voice is immediately identifiable — expressive, precise, and deeply humane.
