March 2014                     The Online Newsletter of the Minnesota Chorale

Here in Minnesota, we've heard it said that this March came in like a Yeti! What would we do without music to carry us through this long, cold winter? The women of the Minnesota Chorale had a triumphant return to Orchestra Hall last month in Holst's The Planets, and we look forward to concerts with Eric Whitacre and the Minnesota Orchestra in April. Until then, there's lots of independent music-making to keep us all busy! Read on for details.

Men in Music concert on March 7

Men in Music singers, rehearsing for Friday, March 7 concert Meet the Men in Music! Our annual choral residency program matches the men of the Chorale with male singers from area high schools. In addition to preparing a showcase of male chorus music, the Chorale singers have been working side-by-side with the high school singers to rehearse specially selected repertoire which they'll perform together in concert with singers from St. Paul Central, Osseo, and Como Park High Schools. Join us for this special concert celebrating the power of men's voices lifted together in song!

Our Minneapolis Youth Chorus has met its fund-raising goals for their June 2014 trip to Washington, DC, where they'll share their talent and artistry with audiences in our nation's capital. Congratulations to the kids, their families, and the many generous supporters who are making this incredible experience possible!

Voices of Experience (VoX), our senior choir collaboration with MacPhail Center for Music, will present its spring concert at Antonello Hall on Tuesday, March 25 at noon. The concert's free, but conductor Jerry Rubino is sure to insist you participate in the sing-along section of the program. We never left

Throughout the 16-month lockout of the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Chorale astonished the community by making more music in more places than ever before. A recent Chorus America article, "Back from the Brink", applauded this approach: "Being forced out of its comfort zone has reaped some tangible benefits for the Chorale. 'What this did for us was allow us to explore new parts of the Twin Cities and make connections we had not previously made," {artistic director Kathy} Romey said, 'and explore repertoire and programming ideas that we had not had the opportunity to consider in the past.'" (Read the whole article here.)

Our community rallied around us, attended our concerts, cheered us on, and helped us survive. We owe you our endless thanks, and we hope we can count on you to continue supporting our mission: to educate, enrich, unite and inspire through the power of the human voice. Won't you make a gift to the Minnesota Chorale today? Thank you!
